Bright eyed at 8am in the morning. A black cloth laid on a couch made the perfect background for this toddler. Just be patient and keep a wipe cloth handy.

This picture of a baby boy was shot with a 200mm lens and a bounce flash. I wanted a shot with his face and hands and he was teething, so I laid him on a black cloth and he did the rest.

  • When in doubt, get as close to the subject as you can. Really show their face, hair, hands, feet.
  • Using a black background (large towel, sheet...etc) keeps the distractions out of the picture.
  • Most babies have perfect skin, so shooting them without clothing allows everyone to see the subject and not his outfit.
100% Baby Boy
Exploring his new world. I don't usually move the infants around much and I like to keep toys away. The baby will find something interesting to play with, in this case it was his toes.
Another shot first thing in the morning. I loved his chubby fingers and his great attitude! Probably the best thing about shooting infant pictures is that they are somewhat immobile - making your job pretty easy.
